Workshop Policies & Community Standards
Thank you for your interest in workshops with Jan Henderson. We believe that everyone has the right to create in a safe place where they are welcome and respected. Before sending your deposit, please ensure you have read and agree to the policies below.
Financial Policies
Deposits: Your deposit secures your spot and covers administrative costs. Deposits are non-refundable but are transferable to a future workshop for the same participant or another interested individual.
Balance: The remainder of the workshop fee is due on the first day of class.
Cancellations:
If a participant cancels in advance after paying in full, the fee is refunded minus the deposit.
If a participant must leave mid-course due to emergency, illness, or injury, they will be refunded for the remaining missed days.
If Fool Moon cancels a workshop (e.g., low enrollment or public health emergency), participants receive a full refund or credit.
Community Standards & Safe(r) Spaces
We believe the best work comes when collaborators feel safe to bring their whole selves into the room. We expect all participants to respect the dignity of every person and pledge to have each other's backs, minds, and hearts!
Principles of Equity: We recognize that racism is embedded in colonial systems and that racial violence remains a lived experience for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour. We are mindful that our work primarily takes place in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) on Treaty 6 territory.
Studio Practices: Participants are expected to:
Use a person’s indicated pronouns and inclusive language.
Support individual access needs and respect physical, mental, and spiritual boundaries.
Assume positive intent while remaining accountable for the actual impact of their actions.
Acknowledge that artistic creation is a vulnerable process and may include challenging or triggering content.
Harassment & Communication
We take all reports of inappropriate behavior seriously. Each offense and resolution is handled on a case-by-case basis.
Reporting: If you witness or experience bullying, harassment, discrimination, or abuse, please contact Jan’s assistant or Jan Henderson directly.
Outside Communications: While participants may choose to join outside platforms (WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.), Fool Moon is not responsible for communications occurring outside of official class emails. If an expressed boundary is crossed on these platforms, participants are encouraged to report the incident for review.
Photography/Video: By participating, students grant Fool Moon Productions the right to capture and use media for lawful purposes such as illustration or web content, unless otherwise requested in writing.
Note that this COVID Policy is subject to change based on the current COVID-19 situation and advisories from health officials. This policy is written to protect the safety of all staff, artists, and participants. It is acknowledged that an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.
Masking: We are a mask-friendly environment and encourage masking whenever a participant feels it is necessary.
Illness: If you exhibit symptoms (cough, fever, sore throat, etc.) or test positive for an illness:
5 days prior: Full reimbursement is provided.
During workshop: A credit for future workshops will be issued for the hours missed.
